What to expect at your appointment

  • Please allow up to 2 hours for your appointment. All efforts are made to keep to schedule however we may experience delays due to the unexpected nature of medicine. Please accept our apologies if an emergency delays your appointment.

  • When you arrive, reception will check your details are correct and up to date. If it is your first visit please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time as you will be asked to fill in new patient paperwork including a medical history form.

  • Depending on the nature of your visit you may see an ophthalmic technician for some initial diagnostic scans / tests.

  • You will then be seen by a clinical optometrist who will prepare you for your appointment with the ophthalmologist. The optometrist will take your medical history, measure your intraocular pressures, assess your vision and instill eye drops to dilate your eyes.

  • After your eyes have dilated you will be seen by the ophthalmologist who will perform a thorough eye examination and discuss your diagnosis and treatment options.

Dilation

Instilling dilation eye drops allows for a complete and thorough examination of your eyes. If these drops are required you can expect your vision to be blurry and your eyes more sensitive to light for several hours. You cannot drive for several hours following your eyes being dilated. We recommend having a family member of friend drive you to your appointment. If you hold a DVA card we are happy to arrange transport for your appointment.
